The name of the album is 潮起潮落(Ebb and Flow). ” 潮 ” in Chinese has two meanings. First, it means sea waves. Also, it means trending. While ” 起 ” and ” 落 ” means rise and decline. Like the sea waves, the trending of Hokkien songs reflects the ebbs and flows of four times. As a Hokkien, I have listened to Hokkien songs since I was little. My peers and I used to have a stereotype of Hokkien songs. For the younger generation, Hokkien songs are the products of our parent’s generation. However, the existence of different genres of Hokkien songs shows the different needs of people. They correspond to the spirit of the time and reflect the people’s voices of the times.
This Album is through 4 times to show Taiwan’s social changes. Times changed just like the sea waves ebbing and flowing.
